Travellers vacate site close to National Tyres in Skelmersdale and Leave Behind a Mountain of Waste

Our West Lancashire Councillor, Neil Furey has reacted angrily after visiting a site in Westgate, Skelmersdale vacated by travellers to be confronted with a mountain of rubbish; building waste; gas bottles and a caravan.

Cllr Furey visited the site late yesterday afternoon(17th June) in response to concerns from local residents. He said “This site has been left in a shocking state and it’s the worst one I have ever seen.  I have brought this to the immediate attention of Councillor Yvonne Gagen, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council to request condemnation of this incident.  The Council now has the huge task of cleaning up this site at taxpayers’ expense.  It’s quite frankly an utter disgrace that this has happened. This has caused harm to our local environment.”

Cllr Furey added that as the clean-up begins he hopes the site is properly secured in future to prevent access and further incidents.

Tom Marsh-Pritchard, Our West Lancashire’s spokesman for Old Skelmersdale added that he would be working with Cllr Furey.  “The council need to act quicker in these cases.  These travellers had been there for many weeks.”
