Anne Hughes – Candidate in Aughton and Holborn
I am Anne Hughes, your Our West Lancashire candidate in Aughton and Holborn ward in the local elections on 7 May. Lancashire born & bred, my civil service career took me around the country until, 35 years ago, I had an opportunity to come home and settle in Aughton along with my husband and two children.

We chose Aughton because it is a lovely place to live and raise a family. I want to work on your behalf to keep it that way.
For some time dark clouds have been gathering on our horizon. Threats to our semi-rural environment and quality of life, through housing overdevelopment. Threats to our essential hospital services, which OWL is fighting vigorously. Our home patch is becoming run down. Some residents I meet during my voluntary work say it has happened already.
Potholes are a scourge, causing expense to motorists and danger to cyclists. Official figures show that we in West Lancashire have the worst roads and pavements of all the districts administered by the Reform-run County Council. Over 2700 defects were reported in the three months to January. Shockingly, not one road in Ormskirk or Aughton is scheduled for resurfacing in 2026/27.
This and many more urgent local problems are OWL’s priorities, as published in our clear policy statement at www.ourwestlancashire.com/policies , which I’d encourage you to read. Importantly, beyond these core policies, our councillors and candidates are free and Independent of any party whip and therefore free to pursue the ideas and strategies that best represent their area.
As an Independent, I will work with all parties for the good of the ward and West Lancashire. I will press for the improvements we all need to those services that affect our daily lives, right here and right now.
Please vote on the 7 May. It really matters. Please vote Our West Lancashire – ‘Putting Residents First and Foremost’.
