OWLs will continue to work for local residents

Election analysis

Our West Lancashire will continue to put the interests of residents first and foremost. This assurance came from Cllr Adrian Owens, Leader of the new Our West Lancashire group on West Lancashire Borough Council. He remains Our West Lancashire’s voice in the Council Chamber

Speaking shortly after the conclusion of the count he said, “whilst naturally being disappointed not to win any further seats, I am not downhearted. Our new group “Our West Lancashire” was only formed some four months ago and we were operating from a standing start. Despite this, in our main target wards we outpolled the Ukip and Green parties by a wide margin (see graph above) and took votes from both Labour and Conservatives– in one strong Labour ward we achieved 1 in 5 of the votes.”

“During our time on the doorsteps we got the impression that many residents felt neglected and ignored by the two main parties – there was also concern about where the £Million pound of savings needed, will come from for this. Our West Lancashire has always recommended finding some of this from top management savings and cutting Councillors allowances to the level of other Councils, but both these ideas have been resisted up until now.”

With Labour silent on how they will achieve these savings, Councillor Owens has made a pledge to the people of West Lancashire “despite me continuing for this year to have to ‘plough a lonely furrow’, in the Chamber, I will fight on, on the behalf of West Lancashire residents to achieve fair and acceptable savings”.

Cllr Owens continued “The Our West Lancashire Group continues to grow its membership and will ensure even more residents hear about our activities in the coming months. I also thank those many residents who supported us this time “
